Seasonal fruit and vegetables in August

Summer is a period of great celebration in the vegetable garden and in the orchard: there are many fruits that are ready and there is therefore an embarrassment of choice and it is good to learn many summer recipes with which to bring all this abundance to the table.

The garden is a lot rich during the summerThanks to the sun that allows different types of vegetables to ripen, there are numerous summer vegetables that harvest during the month of August.

The most typical crops of the summer are solanaceous plants: peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes, aubergines they have their best harvest of the year in August.

Also zucchini and cucumbers they can be picked now and hopefully you can see the first pumpkins in the garden.

When they are not discouraged by the great heat there is no shortage of salads and leafy vegetables: chard, chicory, lettuce, endive, rocket, celery, spinach, valerianella and songino I'm available.

Also radishes, corn and carrots they are accompanied in fresh summer salads. All of this is in season in August and can end up in the shopping cart without remorse.

Some vegetables that will be the absolute protagonists of the winter garden can already be harvested in August, especially towards the end of the month: cabbage, cauliflower, leek, fennel, turnip greens. On the legume front, they are caught beans, snow peas, chickpeas and green beans, while peas and broad beans may be available, if stored from previous months.

Also potatoes, onions, garlic and shallots they are vegetables that can be preserved for a long time, so in August we still consider them in season, even if they are usually harvested between June and July, from which they are preserved in a natural way. We can find these vegetables from the gardener without forcing.

Like aromatic herbs in August the garden is a riot of basil, to be used to make Genoese pesto, e parsley, so you can also make the excellent green sauce. It also captures the mint, in addition to the evergreens sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano and marjoram.

In the orchard we can collect the apricots, peaches, pears, apples, plums and plums. In the south, the delicious ones ripen prickly pears, while the August vegetable garden gives watermelons and melons, fruits that symbolize summer, fresh and juicy.

On the vineyard you begin to see some bunches ofgrapes mature, which then in September will give its best. In August, several are also harvested berries and nuts.
